Subject: Focus on Scarlet
Plenty has been written about this show on the other versions of the tape, but I will add my two cents worth regarding Scarlet Begonias. It starts nice and energetic and not as slow and clunky as many of the preceding versions. In the guitar solo in the main head Jerry maybe plays one too many choruses, reaching for riffs that don't quite hit home. But this this general ambitiousness pays off in the jam, which is unusually playful and mines some different seams that a lot of other Scarlets. Its a standout version for me.
